Located in central Wisconsin on the banks of the Wisconsin, Stevens Point offers a lot to both residents and visitors alike.
One of the biggest draws to Stevens Point is the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, one of the top four year universities in the Midwest. U.S. News and World Report ranked University of Wisconsin Stevens Point as one of the top ten Midwestern universities at the Master's level. UW Stevens Point is part of the public University of Wisconsin system, offering in state tuition to both Wisconsin students and students from neighboring states.
Stevens Point is also a destination getaway location for those in the Midwest, offering beautiful waterways, loads of green space in and out of the city, and a great golf course. The area boasts an intricate cross country ski trail system, many of which double as mountain bike trails in the summer months. Much of downtown Stevens Point has been preserved as a historic site, offering up many different quaint shops and cozy restaurants. Museums and art galleries also crop up in downtown Stevens Point, bringing culture into central Wisconsin.
Another popular destination in Stevens Point is the Stevens Point Brewery, which has been brewing excellent beer since it's founding in 1857. The brewery has a long history, from providing beer to soldiers during the Civil War to brewing soft drinks and "near beer" during prohibition. Point Beer is marketed throughout the Midwest, and the brewery has become both a popular tourist destination as well as an important historic site.
The Stevens Point Journal is the area's local newspaper. Boasting both local and national coverage, the Journal is a great source of information for both locals and traveling visitors. The community calendar is handy for planning trips to Stevens Point, as travelers often coordinate trips to coincide with local fairs and festivals.
Stevens Point is a great place to visit year-round. The Stevens Point Country Club boasts a full eighteen hole course with a PGA professional and staff to assist visitors with anything they may need. The club is open to non-members, but membership also includes membership to the Bull's Eye Country Club in Wisconsin Rapids and the Wausau Country Club in Wausau, Wisconsin, giving residents and weekenders alike three club memberships for the price of one.
Winter is also a great time to visit. With a sure-fire white Christmas, Stevens Point is a great place to spend the holidays. With great cross country ski trails just outside of town and miles of snowmobile trails in the area, your family will never have a boring minute. |
