Online spelling test Many children struggle with the basics of spelling. They have trouble during their weekly spelling quizzes and sounding out words while reading a book becomes a burden. If you are the parent of a child who could use some extra practice in spelling than you might want to consider an online spelling test. An online spelling test is a test that the child can take on any computer that has internet access. There are many websites that offer their visitors the use of free spelling aids including tests.  As a parent you can research the different websites and choose one that has an online spelling test at the grade level that your child is at. The tests are easy to navigate and can make a considerable difference in how well a child does when it comes to spelling. Once the child or parent logs onto the site, they are given a choice of tests. Once an online spelling test has been chosen, the parent, if present should allow the child to continue on their own; this is important. You want the child to take the test without any influence from a parent or older child. This way you’ll be able to better determine what words the child is struggling with. An online spelling test will generally give the child a choice of spellings of particular words. These words will be words that the child should be able to spell considering their age and grade level.  The child will make their choice of correct spelling out of four or five possible choices. The test continues on in this fashion. Once the online spelling test is complete the student will be graded.  Any errors that were made will be highlighted and the child along with their parent can then focus on those words and whatever patterns may be revealed. For some children it may be that they are sounding the word out incorrectly and forgetting a letter within a word. This is particularly popular with words that have a silent letter. The use of an online spelling test on a daily basis or perhaps even if they are utilized several times per week can greatly reduce the number of spelling errors the child will have at school.  Once the child has mastered the online spelling tests at their own grade level, they can progress to the next level. This is a real confidence booster in children who have struggled with spelling in the past.
